Database containing three centuries of B.C. artists published

Artist database released

A database containing information about artists dating back to the 1700s has been made public.

Sim Publishing has made its B.C. Artists research project available to anyone; it contains information about nearly 20,000 people who've worked as a visual artist in the province. While some are historical, others are current and actively working in the field.

The massive project took Gary Sim 25 years to put together, according to a press release. He went through thousands of documents to collect the information. The project links artists to past shows and events, as exhibition catalogues were transcribed.

While it was finished a couple of years ago, the database is now online. Archivists, artists or collectors looking for more information about an artist are encouraged to have a look at it.
