Dr. Bonnie Henry provides update on coronavirus pandemic

86 new cases, 2 deaths

The provincial government has announced another 86 new coronavirus cases and two deaths.

Dr. Bonnie Henry said Monday the total provincial case count has now climbed to 970 cases, although 48 per cent, or 469 people, of COVID-19 patients have now recovered. There are 501 active COVID-19 cases in B.C.

106 people are currently hospitalized due to the virus, with 60 in ICU.

There are now 94 virus cases in the Interior Health region, up from 77 last announced Saturday afternoon.

Both deaths were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, one being deemed a “community death,” although Dr. Henry declined to offer any additional details.

“We are not through the storm yet, we have not yet reached our peak,” Dr. Henry said, explaining they are waiting to see in the next two weeks if there will continue to be a “trickle” in cases or a large spike.

As Monday’s update provided numbers for the past two days, Dr. Henry said 16 new cases were confirmed Sunday and 70 on Monday.
