Pipeline protesters plan to block off the intersection of Broadway and Commercial Drive early Wednesday evening.
Hosted by Climate Convergence Metro Vancouver and the Wet'suwet'en Solidarity – Coast Salish Territory, a Facebook event notes that a protest rally will be held at the Broadway and Commercial Drive intersection at 5 p.m. on Feb. 19.
"Join us as we continue to mobilize against these two Indigenous Rights and climate killing pipeline mega-projects,” reads the event post. “Let's keep building the momentum and the movement!"
The event also includes a complete solidarity statement, which remarks how the, "Unfair, unjust and inacceptable government attacks won’t stop the struggle."
On Tuesday, Feb. 18, protesters impacted traffic on East Hastings Street and Clark Drive resulting in minor delays on Tuesday afternoon. Vancouver Police tweeted that westbound traffic on East Hastings Street and Clark Drive was being impacted due to the demonstration. As such, drivers were advised to consider an alternative route.
The protestors are supporting First Nations opponents to a natural gas pipeline in northern B.C. The demonstration follows a week of protests across the country, including one that blocked off the Granville Street Bridge in both directions following a rally at the B.C. Supreme Court.
