Counterfeit ring busted

A counterfeit ring bust in Surrey has snared a man previously shot by RCMP in Salmon Arm during a car wash break-in in 2017.

Four people were arrested following investigation of the ring alleged to have circulated more than US$5,000 in fake bills in Surrey.

RCMP searched a Newton area home on Jan. 23, seizing counterfeit U.S. and Canadian currency, printing equipment, and numerous weapons. Police seized $12,000 in fake U.S. bills and $120 in bogus Canadian currency, CTV News reports.

Kaymen and Tassie Winter, both 25, Mitchell Coubrough, 32, and Terita Herbert, 33, were arrested.

All are charged with possession of counterfeit currency, and Coubrough is also charged with possession of credit card data.

Kaymen Winter was shot by police in the 2017 Salmon Arm incident, in which he drove a vehicle towards an officer. The Independent Investigations Office later concluded police did not act improperly in the shooting.

Kaymen also now also faces charges of uttering counterfeit currency, making counterfeit currency, possession of instruments used in making counterfeit currency, two counts of possession of prohibited weapons, and three counts of possession of a forged document.

Tassie Winter also faces charges of making counterfeit currency, possession of instruments used in making counterfeit currency, possession of credit card data and six counts of uttering counterfeit currency.
