B.C. team qualifies as finalists in 2020 Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup

Votes needed for good deed

The Williams Lake Timberwolves, made up of members from the Williams Lake minor hockey PeeWee Tier 2 hockey team, have landed themselves a spot in the finals of the 2020 Chevrolet Good Deeds Cup.

The team are the only finalists from British Columbia in this season's Cup.

As their good deed, the team collected food donations, raised money and did a clothing drive for the local Boys & Girls Club youth outreach program, after hearing their food bank did not have enough for those in need.

Team manager Leslie Rowse says she's incredibly proud of the boys and their efforts.

"It has been wonderful to see the players working hard and excited about a cause bigger than themselves.  Bringing attention and awareness to their charity, (Boys and Girls Club and their youth food bank) and having the ability to win them more money has tapped into their competitiveness, and they are all in!

"They know they're up against some big city teams, but they're keeping at it, slow and steady wins the race."

To advance into the top rounds, the team needs all the votes they can get, says Rowse.

If the team makes it into the top three, they will win $5,000 for the Williams Lake Boys & Girls Club youth outreach program. If they are the grand prize winner, the team will be able to win $100,000 for the charity.

Each view of the YouTube video counts as one vote, and voting ends on Sunday, Feb. 9. The video is one minute in length, and has to be watched for at least 30 seconds to qualify for a view.
