One in serious condition after ice bomb at Massey Tunnel

UPDATE: 5:13 p.m.

BC RCMP are asking the public for help after a man was hospitalized due to a large shard of ice crashing through his windshield.

Just before 2 p.m. in Richmond, Lower Mainland Traffic Service officers arrived at the Massey Tunnel following reports of ice falling through a windshield and injuring a driver.

The 49-year-old man from Surrey was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“We are continuing to investigate in an attempt to determine the source of the ice,” says S/Sgt. Janelle Shoihet of the BC RCMP.

“If you were a witness, or have dash-cam video of the collision, please contact the Lower Mainland Traffic Services at 604-526-9744 and cite file 2020-108 to report."

One person has been rushed to hospital in serious condition after ice smashed through the windshield of a Canada Post truck near the Massey Tunnel Friday afternoon.

Images from CTV News Vancouver's Chopper 9 show a Canada Post truck with a large hole in its windshield, on the driver's side. The truck was towed from the highway to a side street. 

The incident caused major traffic backups on Highway 99.
