Prince George RCMP believe shooting linked to drug trade

Man shot, car set on fire

An attempted murder investigation has been opened after a Prince George man was shot and a vehicle believed to be related set on fire.

RCMP Cpl. Craig Douglass says police received reports of shots fired about 8 p.m. Tuesday.

When officers arrived, they found multiple spent bullet casings on the road, but no victims.

Others in the South Fort George neighbourhood reported hearing gunfire, and witnesses saw two dark vehicles fleeing the area following the shooting.

Shortly after, a 28-year-old-man arrived at the local hospital with a gunshot wound, which was believed to be non-life-threatening.

About the same time, police received a call about a vehicle fire a few blocks from the shooting.

"Investigators believe that the vehicle was deliberately set on fire and is associated to the shooting," Douglass says in a release.

Police believe the shooting was targeted and related to the drug trade. Douglass adds police have no reason to believe the general public is at risk.

Anyone with information is asked to call Prince George RCMP at 250-561-3300 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
