Crash east of Revelstoke had highway closed most of Friday

Crash cleared, hwy open

Drive BC advises the Trans-Canada fully reopened about 4:15 p.m.


UPDATE: 3:10 p.m.

A crash between two semis east of Revelstoke has been cleared, DriveBC reports.

The collision has left Highway 1 closed all day.

Vehicle recovery is now complete, but the highway remains closed for avalanche control. 


UPDATE: 2:40 p.m.

DriveBC reports vehicle recovery is underway at the scene of a serious collision east of Revelstoke on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The route remains closed in both directions. 


UPDATE: 8:02 a.m.

Revelstoke RCMP tell Castanet that two commercial tractor-trailers collided head-on 40 kilometres east of Revelstoke at 4:30 a.m. this morning.

Both drivers were pinned in their vehicles and needed to be extricated by the Revelstoke Fire Rescue Service. Both men have been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Trans-Canada Highway is currently closed until an RCMP collision analyst conducts an investigation and the vehicles can be removed from the road.

Following this, the roadway will need to be cleared by the local highways maintenance contractor Emcon before it is fully reopened.


ORIGINAL: 6:21 a.m.

The Trans-Canada Highway is closed in both directions this morning following a multi-vehicle crash near Mount Revelstoke National Park overnight.

DriveBC reports the incident occurred at Albert Canyon Road, four kilometres east of the park.

An assessment is in progress, and no detour is available.

More details are expected later this morning.
