The Coquihalla Highway has reopened in both direction at the scene of a crash near the Carolin Mine Road exit, north of Hope.

Northbound lanes are now open on the Coquihalla, at the scene of a serious crash north of Hope.


UPDATE: 1:05 p.m.

DriveBC now reports the Coquihalla Highway is closed in both directions at the scene of a serious crash north of Hope.


UPDATE: 12:40 p.m.

DriveBC is reporting a crash has closed southbound lanes of the Coquihalla, near the Carolin Mine Road exit, north of Hope.

The crash is believed to be serious, possibly fatal, according to Castanet readers passing the scene.

DriveBC urges motorists to consider using alternate routes.

It's definitely winter on Southern Interior highways.

A freezing rain alert remains in effect for Highway 97 north of the Okanagan, the Coquihalla and many higher elevation routes.

Up to 15 centimetres of snow is forecast on mountain passes.

Travellers on the Trans-Canada Highway can expect slushy and slippery sections with pooling water east of Sicamous, al the way to Glacier National Park and Golden.

DriveBC reports similar conditions on Highway 97 north of Vernon to Monte Creek, with slushy sections in the 100 Mile House area.

Compact snow is reported on the Okanagan Connector at Pennask Summit, with slushy with slippery sections elsewhere.

It was snowing as well on the Coquihalla between Mine Creek Road and the north side of the summit.

Highway 33 east of Kelowna is reporting slushy and slippery sections all the way to Beaverdell.
