Crane spills load on street

Downtown Victoria traffic was snarled Wednesday after a portion of a concrete form collapsed as it was being lifted by a crane.

The incident happened at the site of the $100-million Customs House development near the corner of Government and Wharf streets.

According to developer Stan Sipos, the plywood and aluminum form used to create a cement stairway collapsed as it was being lifted. It fell beside the building and onto the northbound lane of Wharf Street.

There were no reports of damage to the building, workers, or passers-by.

The Workers Compensation Board was expected on scene to investigate, but Sipos anticipated only a short delay to construction.
