Confrontation, shots fired

Chase RCMP are investigating after shots were fired Saturday September 7th, 2019 at 2:20 p.m., at a residence on Hilliam Road in Scotch Creek. The early investigation indicates a group of individuals attended the home on Hilliam Road to confront its occupants regarding stolen property. Shortly after arriving the group was seen making a hasty retreat after shots rang out and a man was seen and heard yelling at the group to leave the property. The same man was seen exiting the house carrying a shotgun and walking towards the group who had retreated to the roadway. After the confrontation, the man was seen returning to the house.

The RCMP South East District Emergency Response Team responded along with Chase and Salmon Arm members only to discover the suspect had fled the scene. Reports indicate police are familiar with this residence.

Chase RCMP say they are concerned that this group of individuals took matters into their own hands and bypassed law enforcement. "Not only is there a concern for their personal safety, there is a risk that investigations can be jeopardized and key evidence can be lost," says Cpl. Scott Linklater.

Chase RCMP are asking anyone with any information regarding this incident to contact the Chase Detachment at (250) 679-3221.
