Workers not as sick in BC

The Canadian Taxpayers Association has crunched the numbers, and it says government employees take 77 per cent more sick days than private sector workers.

The CTF examined the Statistics Canada data in honour of Labour Day and determined that the average government employee in 2018 took 12.2 sick days compared to 6.9 days in the private sector.

“Canadian taxpayers are on the hook for government employee salaries,” CTF federal director Aaron Wudrick said in a press release. “So the fact illness appears to be striking bureaucrats with such frequency, preventing them from doing the jobs they are paid to do, seems worth looking into.”
