Climber airlifted from Chief

An injured rock climber was airlifted from the Stawamus Chief in Squamish Thursday.

Squamish Search and Rescue says the female climber fell from the Apron climbing area and was lifted from the scene by long line before being transferred to an air ambulance.

The incident happened about 11:30 a.m.

The woman apparently struck her head in the fall, and was secured to a ledge by her climbing partner.

The incident comes two days after another rescue by local SAR on the Chief.

There have been two climbing fatalities at the popular climbing area this summer.
