The victim of yesterday's fatal crash on Highway 97C has been identified as 32-year-old Jesse Pakulat.

Pakulat was traveling west on the Okanagan Connector, when he lost control and collided with a pickup truck travelling east, reports Radio NL in Kamloops.

Pakulat formerly hosted on Merritt's Q101 radio station between 2016 and this year, "and made many deep community connections in Merritt and the Nicola Valley during his time on the air," said station general manager Elizabeth Laird on Facebook.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

It is unknown what caused the crash and the investigation remains ongoing.

ORIGINAL: 11:30 a.m.

Police have confirmed one person died in a crash Thursday afternoon on the Okanagan Connector.

The crash occurred between a car and pickup at about 3 p.m. near the Pothole Creek Bridge.

RCMP have limited details at this point, but say the initial stages of the investigation indicates the driver of the car was travelling west, lost control of their vehicle and went into oncoming traffic, where the car was struck by an eastbound truck.

Each vehicle had just one occupant.

Police were not able to say what driver was killed in the crash, which resulted in the closure of the highway until about 7:30 p.m.

More details may be released Monday.
