Woman falls to her death

A internal investigation has been launched after a Surrey woman jumped to her death Tuesday in front of police.

On Aug. 13, 2019 at approximately 12:25 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a woman on her balcony who wanted to end her life.

Police responded to the apartment complex in the 14000 block of 103A Avenue and confirmed the woman was on the edge of a 9th floor balcony. 

Police made multiple attempts to make contact with the woman and entered the building, however, the woman fell.

She was provided immediate emergency medical treatment by police and BC Ambulance attendants. 

But she was declared dead on scene
The Independent Investigations Office BC was notified and is investigating to determine whether police actions, or inactions, are linked to the woman's death.

As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
All aspects and circumstances of this incident will be the subject of independent investigation and verification by the IIO BC.
