Shooting suspects charged

Two men charged in connection with a shooting death in Surrey on Friday have been identified by police.

Calvin Powery-Hooker, 20, and Nathan De Jong, 21, are each charged with first-degree murder for the shooting of Suminder Grewal in a Surrey drive-thru.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says the two accused are known to police, and investigators are firm in their belief that this was a targeted incident.

Grewal was a known member of the Hells Angels.

He was killed behind the wheel of his car on the 3000 block of 152nd Street in Surrey.

Powery-Hooker and De Jong will appear in provincial court on Tuesday.

“We urge anyone who had recent contact with Calvin Powery-Hooker and/or Nathan De Jong to contact IHIT as soon as possible,” says Sgt. Frank Jang of IHIT.

IHIT is appealing to the public for dash cam video from drivers who were travelling along 152nd Street between 32nd Avenue and 96th Avenue around the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call the IHIT information line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or email [email protected].
