Foreign sub in Cdn waters

Whale watchers caught a glimpse of a military submarine in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Tuesday – but it wasn't Canadian.

The Royal Canadian Navy's Maritime Forces Pacific confirms it wasn't one of ours, CTV News reports.

The sub is American, but U.S. military won't confirm that.

"Due to our operational security, we are not making comment on any of that," a U.S. Navy spokesman told CTV.

The U.S. Navy's Submarine Group Nine is based out of Bremerton, Wash., home to several Ohio-class ballistic missile and Seawolf-class fast-attack nuclear submarines.

Paul Pudwell with Sooke Coastal Explorations captured images of the vessel as it cruised past on the surface.
