Sudden care home closure

Northern Health says it is in contact with residents and their families about accommodations after the abrupt closure of a private Prince George care home.

Enat Complex Care dropped a bombshell on Friday evening that it was closing, leaving residents without any readily available options.

Northern Health spokesperson Eryn Collins says eight patients came into Northern Health's care over the weekend.

But, before that, residents ended up in the University Hospital of Northern B.C. emergency room in hallways with no clear picture going forward after the sudden closure.

On Saturday, Collins says they were transferred to the Gateway facility.

She adds Northern Health Community Care Licensing was trying to work with the facility in Prince George to assess as well as work through some concerns that were related to care and safety of residents.

"Options for the continued operation were presented, but ultimately the decision was made – by the operator - to close the facility," Collins says in an email. "The affected residents were transported to UHNBC for assessment of their needs and admitted overnight, and on Saturday they were transferred to an NH long-term care facility. We continue to explore options for their care, and are communicating directly with residents and their families about their interim location and care, as well as longer-term options.”

Eyob Abebe, owner of Enat Complex Care Home, would not elaborate on details, giving only a few words.

"Further discussion pending legal advice," Abebe said in an email.

The website for the care home has also been removed.
