Man drowns in lake

A man drowned at West Lake near Prince George on Canada Day.

RCMP say a man went under the water and was pulled from the lake by the public, but was unresponsive.

Officers took over CPR that was being performed by a bystander, and an automated external defibrillator was also used until paramedics could arrive.

Further efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.

The BC Coroners Service is investigating, but no foul play is suspected.

"Prince George RCMP would like to thank those members of the public that pulled the man from the water, began CPR and assisted with this tragic incident before and after emergency responders arrived," Cpl. Craig Douglass says in a news release.
