Boater missing in river

One boater was rescued from the Columbia River, Thursday, and another is missing after their aluminum fishing boat capsized near Revelstoke.

Witnesses reported the capsizing about 11 p.m., east of the Blanket Creek Campground, 20 kilometres south of Revelstoke.

Responding RCMP heard the men calling for help in the water. Both were wearing life-jackets.

However, they became separated as they tried to get to shore.

One made it to the east river bank on his own and was able provide GPS co-ordinates via his cellphone.

Revelstoke and Golden Search and Rescue groups, along with police, on air, land and water located the first man on the shoreline. He was airlifted to Victoria Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The second boater remains missing.

He is described as Caucasian, 35 years old, 220 pounds, and was wearing shorts, a green coat and a black and yellow life-jacket.

Their small boat and outboard motor was located partially submerged further south of the campground, along the west shoreline.

The air, land and water search continues.

Police describe water conditions as cold and rough.
