Bear chased from school

Police and conservation officers scared off a black bear seen near a Nanaimo elementary school on Wednesday.

A shelter-in-place order has since been lifted, CTV News reports, but students at Coal Tyee Elementary were kept inside earlier in the day officers combed the area.

The bear was spotted in a fruit tree and in the Diver Lake area of the city this week.

Officers "located the bear moving away from the school, and we tracked it through the woods until we couldn't any further," said conservation officer Daniel Eichstadter
