Rider crushed by dumptruck

A B.C. man was killed Tuesday when his motorcycle was struck by a dumptruck near Kettle Falls, Wash.

Motorcyclist David P. Gildbride, 69, of New Westminster, was pronounced dead at the scene about 40 miles south of the U.S.-Canada border at Laurier, near Christina Lake.

Truck driver Leland J. Williams, 62, of Spokane, was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane after his truck rolled on its side and into the ditch in the collision.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Gilbride was southbound on U.S. Highway 395 on his Yamaha motorcycle and Williams was northbound in a Kenworth dumptruck when the truck crossed the centerline and hit the motorcycle head-on, just west end of the Columbia River bridge.

The motorcycle became entangled between the truck frame and bed as it overturned.

The wreckage was strewn across Highway 395, prompting officials to close the highway for several hours.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and charges could be pending.
