Nude beach for Tofino?

A Tofino woman's proposal to establish a nude beach at the Vancouver Island community is gathering local support.

Rachel Sutton says a nude or clothing-optional beach would be one more amenity for the town.

“Can we just have a place we can go where we don’t even have to think about wearing clothes?” Sutton told CTV News.

She's suggesting Cox Bay beach as a location.

Mayor Josie Osborne says there has been no formal proposal, but "such a beach would need to be an informal arrangement amongst community members."

Sutton said she’s been surprised by support for the idea.

“Wouldn’t it be better to know where there’s going to be nudity?” she said.
