New home for gnome?

The world's tallest gnome is looking for a new home.

Howard, the almost eight-metre-tall statue, has stood over Nanoose Bay for 21 years. Originally built for an amusement park, the giant gnome's home has been a gas station in recent years, but soon the site will be dismantled.

"We want to find him a new home, somewhere people can still visit him, take photos with him," Bridget Matewish, the granddaughter of its builder, told CTV News. "We don’t want to see him torn down and thrown out."

Hundreds of people have taken an interest, but five possible sites have been found: Sayward Whitewater Resort, Coombs Antique Store, The Log Cabin General Store and Fast Time Grand Prix in Parksville, or Galey Farms in Saanich.

Matewish said she wants Howard to go to a spot where families and children can still enjoy him.

Even Sex in the City actress Kim Cattrall, a Vancouver Island resident, showed her support.

"It would be sad to see him go. He has waved us on for countless years. Our Nanoose Bay gnome," the actress said.
