Police handed out 85 distracted driving tickets in Victoria on Wednesday. And on Tuesday, 28 in just five hours.
This during a highly publicized, month-long blitz on the problem across B.C.
“We should be getting nobody, but unfortunately we’re still writing tickets and still seeing people on their phones and distracted," Const. Matt Rutherford told CTV News.
The tickets come with a $580 price tag, plus driver's demerit points.
Distracted driving is the leading cause of rear-end crashes, according to ICBC. But it's not just phones to blame. Having a pet on your lap while driving, reading and even eating can also get you a ticket.
