Allegations at soccer coach

The coach of a youth soccer team in Surrey, B.C. has been suspended after being identified in a blog post outlining allegations of inappropriate behaviour.

The blog post written by former soccer player Ciara McCormack contains allegations of bullying and sexual harassment against a number of coaches in women’s soccer, reports CTV News.

The post outlines her experiences with the Vancouver Whitecaps and Canadian Soccer Association, which included potential sexual inappropriateness with underage players that were not reported to the police.

The coach in question left the Whitecaps in 2008 and players were under the impression he would not oversee another team — until he joined Coastal FC.

Coastal Football Club executive director Chris Murphy told CTV News they were not aware of the allegations when the coach was hired, but moved quickly to suspend him when they learned of the post Monday.

"Immediately on seeing that we got together our board of directors and some staff to discuss appropriate actions and steps, and that's when we decided to take the actions that we did," Murphy told CTV.

Police are not currently involved, he added.

"This is all new to us, but certainly it's a top priority for us to not only get to the bottom of this situation but also to review our own internal process and policies in respect to the appointment of coaches in our club," Murphy said.
