Parents want more security

Parents are calling for more security cameras following the sexual assault of a six-year-old girl earlier this month near a South Vancouver school.

The J.W. Sexsmith Elementary parent advisory council has made several suggestions to the Vancouver School Board following the Dec. 5 attack, CTV News reports.

It wants security cameras around the exterior of the school and additional fencing around the perimeter to keep kids from wandering into less visible areas. The PAC is also asking that foliage be removed to reduce blind spots and that a forested hill to the west of the school be cleared.

The parent group says extra supervision should also be added.

Members are also requesting a meeting with the Vancouver Police Department.

The assaulted child was lured away and then walked back to the school, the VPD says.

Parents say they didn't find out about the assault until a week later.

The suspect is described as about 30 years old, with brown or grey hair.
