Gas price spikes at Coast

Gasoline prices jumped more than 20 cents a litre over the weekend in Metro Vancouver.

While drivers could fill up for $1.25 a litre on Friday, by Sunday the going price was $1.48, CTV News reports.

Petroleum analyst Dan McTeague of gas buddy.com says the spike is unprecedented, and he points the finger to a pipeline shutdown in Washington state.

"Even though the Olympic pipeline is back up and running, it doesn't mean that everyone's supply is adequate. It means there's been a shortage in the system at a very critical time when no one anticipated it was going to happen," he told CTV.

Gas prices in the Okanagan were still mostly around the $1.24 mark through the weekend.
