Airbnb has come under fire for a number of reasons over the past several years but now new claims could seriously damage the business.
There have been several reports recently of hidden cameras found inside rental units. Now a B.C. man adds his name to the list.
An engineer from Vancouver, Robert Wallenberg, was in Toronto recently for the annual Toronto Film Festival, and he was shocked to find a hidden camera inside a clock radio pointed at his bed inside the rented apartment.
"I felt some objects had been moved around in my bedroom," Wallenberg said. "I was a bit alarmed and then I saw that I had a message from the host … that's how I knew the guy had been in my place that night."
Wallenberg says he specifically placed a camera bag in front of the bedroom alarm clock to block the light – when he returned the bag had been moved.
On closer inspection, he discovered a small camera.
"Then I got kind of scared," Wallenberg said. "What if he's watching right now? What if he has an apartment in this building?"
He reported the incident to Toronto police who are still investigating and Wallenberg says the incident left him feeling violated.
