Valley facing a storm

Rain and winds are working their way up the valley Sunday evening.

Penticton saw gusts up to 52 kilometres per hour Sunday afternoon, followed by precipitation. Kelowna soon saw the same storm system with even more power, measuring 63 kilometre per hour winds at Kelowna airport at 3:12 p.m., according to Environment Canada.

"It's a result of tropical pressure moving through the region," said Louis Kohanyi, meteorologist with Environment Canada. "There's a chance of thunderstorm as well. For Kelowna, and Penticton."

Kohanyi said the winds are going to ease early this evening, though the southern half of the valley can expect large gusts in the meantime.

Milder weather will return, though.

"The weather is going to improve tomorrow, it's going to be cloudy, looking at a mix of sun and cloud," Kohanyi said.
