Cop pranks scammers

A Port Moody police officer pranked scammers who called him with the notorious CRA scam.

Const. Jason Maschke recorded his call back to the con artists as a warning to the public.

"Please don't fall victim to scams like this. CRA won't sue you!" the force tweeted.

Maschke pretended to fall for the Canada Revenue Agency scam, in which people are told they owe money and could be arrested unless they pay immediately.

The con artist identified himself as Nick Smith with the CRA.

"Officer Nest Smith?" Maschke repeats.

"No, no, Nick. Nick Smith," the scammer replies.

"Mick, as in Michael?" Maschke asks.

"No. N as in 'nice person,'" the scammer says.

If you receive a scam call, just hang up, police advise – and never give out credit card information.
