Pets on a plane: poll

Planning on taking a trip with your pet in the near future?

Turns out that age and gender drive massive differences of opinion about pets on planes, according to a new study from the Angus Reid Institute.

The study indicates that 45 per cent of Canadians say they’re fine to fly with Fido, nearly the same number, 42 per cent say that Bella should be banished to cargo.

However, answers also depend on who you ask.

Young women are likely on board. 66 per cent are accepting of another passenger’s feline friend, while just one-in-five or 21 per cent are not.

Whereas older men say not so fast. Some 61 per cent say pets should not be allowed.

Most of those opposed to flying with pets have specific reasons why they’d prefer not to share the cabin with kitty. Two-in-five say allergies are their primary concern, while one-in-five are concerned about the noise that might result from more pets on board.

Furthermore, many of those polled say they worry the ‘service animal’ label is being abused to bring larger, exotic animals on board.

Most frequent flyers have criteria for a pleasant flying experience, leave on time, avoid a seat by the bathroom. Keep some distance between yourself and the screaming baby.
