Plane crash victim found

UPDATE: 2:15 p.m.

The aircraft that crashed Wednesday at Tyaughton Lake was a float plane that had just taken off, police say.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Annie Linteau says witnesses told police the small plane had only just taken off when it crashed into the lake, southwest of Lillooet.


UPDATE: 1 p.m.

The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team has recovered a second body from a plane crash about 100 kilometres west of Lillooet.

The body was that of a 29-year-old male passenger from Aldergrove.

The float plane, with three people on board, crashed on Tyaughton Lake in Gold Bridge shortly before 1 p.m. Wednesday.

A 20-year-old male passenger from Prince George died at the scene while the 20-year-old pilot from Williams Lake managed to make it out of the wreckage.

He was pulled from the water by nearby witnesses before being taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation has been turned over to the BC Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board.

The search for the third passenger of a float plane that went down near Lillooet continues.

On Wednesday just before 1 p.m. Lillooet RCMP responded to a call of a float plane that crashed on Tyaughton Lake in Gold Bridge which is about 100 kilometres west of Lillooet.

After arriving on scene police confirmed that a 20-year-old Prince George man had died in the crash and the pilot, a 20-year-old Williams Lake man managed to escape from the wreckage with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

He was pulled from the water by nearby witnesses.

The E Division Underwater Recovery Team is searching for the third man who is believed to be submerged in the capsized plane.

The plane plunged into the lake shortly after takeoff, according to witnesses.

Multiple witnesses to the crash attempted to save the three men after the plane went down.

Lillooet RCMP along with the BC Coroners Service and the Transportation Safety Board are continuing their investigation.  

It is too early to speculate the cause of the crash. No further information is available at this time.
