Dramatic river rescue

Seven people had to be rescued after their rafts were trapped under a bridge in Campbell River Tuesday night.

The rafts, which were tied together, got pinned against a bridge abutment.

Some of the rafters made it to shore on their own, but Campbell River Search and Rescue and firefighters pulled two adults and several children from the fast-flowing water.

First responders lowered lifejackets from the bridge, then used ropes to pull them to shore. No one was injured in the incident.

Officials urge floaters to not tie rafts together.

"If there's any obstruction like this bridge piling, it just becomes a way of entrapping them," said SAR spokesman Tim Strange.
