Small quake off BC coast

A small earthquake was felt in Victoria Thursday afternoon.

The 1.7-magnitude quake struck off the coast of southern Vancouver Island at 3:38 p.m., Earthquakes Canada says.

Its epicentre was 11 kilometres southwest of Victoria, at a depth of 16.38 kilometres.

It's one of hundreds of light tremors have murmured off the Island in recent days.

But, Natural Resources Canada seismologist John Cassidy says they are not an indication a larger quake is likely.
