Beat the heat?

The summer solstice is here and it is coming in like a lion!

In addition to a thunderstorm watch, there is also a heat warning in effect for the Interior of British Columbia.

The heat warning went into effect 4 a.m. Thursday morning and is expected to last until early afternoon at least.

The heat is expected to build throughout the day culminating in afternoon thunderstorms and high winds.

A strong upper ridge of high pressure will continue to dominate the weather pattern for one more day over northeastern BC. Consequently, temperatures will once again reach at least 30 degrees this afternoon. Cooler conditions are expected tomorrow as the ridge weakens.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
