Evacs, alerts on Fraser River

An evacuation order has been issued for three properties along the Fraser River in Chilliwack.

The homes are at Carey Point, where other properties are under an evacuation alert as the river is expected to rise by more than a metre during the next week.

An evacuation alert was also issued Tuesday by the Township of Langley for part of Glen Valley, as well as Brae and McMillan islands.

The Fraser is currently running 5.5 metres deep and flowing at 9,300 cubic metres per second at Mission. It's expected to peak at 6.6 metres in depth early next week.

Officials are warning of potentially dangerous debris flowing down the river.

"Staff are currently performing routine dike assessments and inspections, dike maintenance and other flood preparedness activities," the District of Mission said Tuesday.
