Barn, car go up in flames

Fire engulfed a barn and car in Pitt Meadows early Tuesday.

Firefighters managed to stop the flames from spreading to a nearby home despite having to contend with downed power lines and a passing freight train briefly blocking access at a rail crossing.

The blaze broke out just before 3 a.m. on Kennedy Road.

"We had to fight it from a distance until we were sure hydro had the power out," Fire Chief Don Jolley told CTV.

There were no animals in the barn, and the home's residents were all safe.

The cause of the blaze has yet to be confirmed.

"There's some evidence to suggest it may have been electrical," Jolley said.
