$33M in unpaid bridge tolls

The tolls have been gone for months, but the bills still remain.

Tolls came off the Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges in B.C.'s Lower Mainland more than seven months ago – but the tab for unpaid bills sits at $33 million.

Reminders have been sent to drivers, and some cases have been sent to collections. ICBC can even refuse to renew your driver's licence or insurance, but the demands seem to be met with a collective shrug.

"Your bill isn't going away," TransLink spokesperson Jill Drews said. "We will make every effort to collect what's outstanding."

About $18 million is owed to TransLink in unpaid Golden Ears tolls. And $15 million is owed to TreO from the Port Mann.

Those bills are also collecting interest, and ICBC can also assess a $20 processing fee.
