Standoff ends in arrest

UPDATE: 10:55 a.m.

RCMP say a five-hour standoff that concluded about midnight began at 7 p.m. Sunday.

The man barricaded himself in a home on the 1500 block of Dovercourt Road in North Vancouver.

Neighbours reported seeing a man enter the home, which had been the scene of a fire on Friday. The home had been deemed uninhabitable by fire authorities.

After lengthy negotiations, the suspect was arrested without incident.

The man is reported to be the son of the homeowners. He was held in custody and will appear in court today.

A man was arrested after a five-hour standoff in North Vancouver early Monday.

The 44-year-old barricaded himself inside a home in the Lynn Valley area and threatened to open fire on police. 

Emergency Response Team officers surrounded the home as police negotiated with the suspect via a loudspeaker. A "flashbang" was detonated and the man was taken into custody.

No weapons were found in the home.
