New tower Victoria's tallest

City council in Victoria approved plans earlier this week for a high rise that will be the city's tallest building once complete.

The "Hudson One" tower, to be built by Townline developments, will span 25 storeys on Herald Street in Victoria's downtown.

The building will include 176 units, ranging from 435 to 1,000 square feet, and will include retail space on the bottom floor.

Construction is expected to be finished by early 2020.

Townline had asked last summer to make the building 29 storeys, which would have made it the tallest structure anywhere on Vancouver Island.

The Island's tallest building stands in Nanaimo, at 27 storeys high.
