A man has died in Richmond and the RCMP have deemed the death suspicious.

On Saturday, around 8 a.m., Richmond RCMP responded to a report of a man in the water near the 7000 block of Dyke Road.

The man, in his early 70s, was given first aid but could not be resuscitated, and was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The police say the man was a Richmond resident, and had not been previously known to law enforcement.

“The Richmond RCMP Serious Crimes Unit is taking the lead in this investigation. Investigators will be continuing their examination of the area around the 7000 block of Dyke Road for any clues surrounding this incident,” said RCMP Corporal Dennis Hwang.

“We are asking for the public’s assistance for any information regarding this incident. If someone drove, cycled or walked in this area and noticed anything around the morning of March 10, please contact our Serious Crimes Unit."
