Threat at court house

The Chilliwack Court House was evacuated Tuesday afternoon following a safety threat.

At 2:30 p.m., Chilliwack RCMP received a report of an unspecified threat at the court house, located at 46085 Yates Road. 

When police and B.C. Sheriff's Department personnel arrived, they evacuated the court and subsequently discovered a suspicious item outside the building.

RCMP and sheriffs secured the area and evacuated several nearby businesses while they waited for the RCMP Explosives Disposal Unit to arrive.

The unit determined the item was not a risk, and the courthouse and surrounding businesses were reopened. 

A follow-up investigation is now underway, and police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying a blue-green, older model sedan with a sun roof which is of interest in the case.
