Nasty crash on Hwy 1

The driver of an SUV is lucky to be alive following a crash with a commercial tractor-trailer east of Revelstoke.  

It happened Sunday around 5 p.m. on Highway 1. RCMP say the driver of the tractor-trailer crossed the solid double line, obstructed the two eastbound lanes, and crashed into the SUV.

The driver of the SUV, a 33-year-old man from Colorado was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The two passengers in the SUV were not injured.

"The roads at the time of the crash had compact snow with slippery sections," state RCMP. "The SUV was seriously damaged in the collision with only minor damage to the commercial trailer."

Highway 1 was closed for less than two hours, and traffic was able to divert through the city of Revelstoke.

The 52-year-old man driver of the tractor-trailer, from Quebec, has been charged with failing to keep right, of the Motor Vehicle Act.
