Telethon tops $5.4 million

Sunday’s Show of Hearts Telethon raised a record-breaking $5,499,269 in B.C.

Broadcast from the Molson Canadian Theatre at Hard Rock Casino Vancouver, the iconic fundraising event featured an array of heart-warming stories and magic moments, including a young girl receiving an adaptive tricycle and the unveiling of the 600th Sunshine Coach.

“This really is the show of hearts … a show like no other. From the bottom of my heart, I would like to thank all of B.C. for opening their hearts this Family Day weekend and allowing us to help even more amazing children and their families,” said Variety B.C. CEO Cally Wesson.

You can still make a donation online at variety.bc.ca, by calling 310-KIDS or by texting “KIDS” to 45678 to make an automatic $20 contribution.

And, you'll have another chance to help special needs kids when Okanagan Oldies 103.9 holds its first radiothon June 27 in support of the Variety Club.

On the day of the radiothon, The Castanet/Oldies boardroom will be filled with volunteers answering phones as we try to beat a goal of $20,000.

Variety has provided direct help to children with special needs in B.C. for more than 50 years and has distributed more than $25 million in funding.
