Trans-Canada reopens

UPDATE: 5:10 p.m.

DriveBC reports the Trans-Canada Highway has now reopened between Revelstoke and Golden.


UPDATE 2:42 p.m.

Revelstoke RCMP tell Castanet, the driver of an F-150 has died after a collision with a commercial tractor-trailer.

The incident happened approximately 45 kilometres east of Revelstoke on the Trans-Canada Highway.

The driver of the pickup died on scene, while his passenger was transported by BC Ambulance to Golden Hospital. The driver of the commercial vehicle has no injuries.

The commercial vehicle was traveling west bound and the passenger truck was east bound. The roads were in good condition and visibility was good.

The highway remains closed. An RCMP traffic analyst is on scene trying to determine the cause of the accident.

The Trans-Canada Highway will be closed for several hours as the incident is investigated and then wreckage is cleared.

Drivers are advised to check DriveBC for updates.


UPDATE: 2:18 p.m.

Highway one remains closed for 146 kilometres between Revelstoke and Golden. DriveBC is reporting it won't re-open until 6 p.m. tonight.

It's closed due to a collision and there is no detour.

The next update is expected at 5 p.m.

Heads up if you're heading to Alberta today, Highway 1 is closed in both directions in the usual spot between Revelstoke and Golden because of Collision, ten kilometres west of Rogers Pass Summit.

As of 12:30 p.m. there was no estimated time of opening.

The next update is expected at 2:00 pm.
