Landslide crashes down

UPDATE: 4 p.m.

Heavy machinery is expected to arrive Wednesday to clean up a landslide in a residential White Rock neighbourhood.

City crews began clean up and emergency repairs Tuesday, following the slide Monday afternoon.

"It's actually quite surreal … because you're looking at it and all this stuff is coming toward you," Simon Bergen-Henengouwen, strata president of Victoria Terrace Apartments, told CTV.

Residents of the complex were temporarily evacuated, but have been allowed to return to their homes.

City engineers have yet to determine the cause of the mudslide.

ORIGINAL: 2:40 p.m.

A landslide in White Rock has damaged one home and forced the evacuation of at least two others.

The slide happened Monday afternoon near Victoria Avenue and Martin Street. It brought down fences, trees and retaining walls.

A geotechnical assessment is being conducted before residents are allowed to return.

No one was hurt in the slide, which left earth and debris scattered across the neighbourhood.
