Thundersnow for real

Turns out it's not one of those made up media words.

Thundersnow is an actual meteorological term. "Yes I have heard of thundersnow," says Environment Canada Meteorologist, Cindy Yu.

"It's pretty rare for us but it does happen,"  says Yu.

Yu says a cold front moved through B.C. Monday bringing a large low-pressure system and rain to the south coast. Ahead of the front there were several unusual weather events. But behind the front, the air mass was unstable, which triggered "summer Like" convection which brought the unstable weather. In fact, there were some lightning strikes in the Okanagan and even on Vancouver Island which almost never sees lightning.

"It's still very unsettled out there, its to do with the same weather system. Should improve tomorrow but there is another weather system coming through on Thursday."

Maybe lightning will strike twice.
