2nd Burnaby pedestrian hit

A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle Saturday night in the same Cariboo Road intersection in Burnaby where a teen died Wednesday morning.

Witness Jordan Copps said the car didn't even seem like it braked.

"[The driver] just screamed through the intersection and kept going," Copps said.

According to police, the victim was taken to hospital shortly after the 5:30 p.m. collision to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Wednesday's incident had a more tragic outcome, with 15-year-old Fernanda Girotto losing her life after being struck in the crosswalk.

Burnaby RCMP said this is the third such incident in the area this past week, and residents like Aimee Stewart called the intersection dangerous.

"We have a memorial site for the young girl," Stewart said. "It's suppose to be a message to slow down."

RCMP had a speed trap set up near the intersection on Sunday, and are still trying to find the culprit in Saturday evening's hit-and-run. They believe the vehicle was a black Dodge Charger.
