Driver runs over fire hose

Firefighters were battling a blaze in Burnaby early Friday when a driver ran over one of their hoses.

It's the second time this month in Metro Vancouver that a motorist has done so. Thankfully, this time, it didn't result in any injuries.

Last week, a Vancouver firefighter was badly hurt when a suspected drunk driver ran over a fire hose and dragged it down Hastings Street, knocking the firefighter over.

On Friday, Burnaby crews were fighting a fire in a heritage building beside Century Park.

"I'm very concerned.... If there's people in the building, you run over the hose, we lose our water supply, you're putting people's lives in danger," acting assistant fire chief Barry Mawhinney told CTV.

The fire broke out shortly after 5 a.m., and several small explosions were heard by neighbours.

The building is used as a city storage facility, and contained gas and fertilizer.
